Twitter said on Friday that starting February 1, Twitter users will be able to appeal the suspension of their account on the site and their evaluation against the social media platform’s new standards in order to reactivate the account.
Under the new standards adopted following the company’s purchase by billionaire Elon Musk in October, Twitter accounts will only be banned for serious or persistent and repeated violations of the platform’s policies.
Serious violations include engaging in illegal content or activity, inciting violence or causing harm or threats, engaging in targeted harassment of other users, and more.
From now on, Twitter has said it will take less drastic actions than account suspensions, such as restricting access to tweets that violate its policies or requiring users to delete tweets before continuing to use an account.
In December, Elon Musk came under fire for suspending the accounts of several journalists over a controversy over publishing public statements about the billionaire’s plane. But later he activated the accounts again.
