Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is preparing to fire his Defense Minister Yoav Gallant after the latter publicly called for an end to the judicial reform campaign.

Israeli press reports say Netanyahu is considering replacing Galant by hiring Agriculture Minister Avi Dichter, a former Shin Bet chief who also reportedly supported a suspension of the reform campaign but promised on Sunday to vote for it.

According to Hebrew media reports, Netanyahu is considering either firing Galant or putting him under threat of expulsion from the government if he does not vote for judicial reform in the Knesset.

It comes after Galant’s televised appearance on Saturday, in which he called for an immediate and temporary halt to the government’s controversial far-right plan to reform the judiciary, marking the first public opposition within Netanyahu’s government coalition as popular protests continue. in the rejection of the amendment, which, according to opponents, would completely control the judiciary.
