Introduction

The UK Home Office has announced the inclusion of the Russian private military company Wagner on its list of “terrorist organisations”.

Announcement by the Ministry

The ministry said in a statement on Friday: “Today, the Russian mercenary recruitment company Wagner was declared a terrorist organization based on a decree submitted to parliament on September 6.”

Criminalization and Penalties

The statement added: “The order will come into force immediately and will make it a criminal offense in the UK for affiliation with or active support of a Wagner company, with the possibility of being sentenced to up to 14 years’ imprisonment, which may be accompanied by a fine.”
