The New York Times reported that the Ukrainian Foreign Legion currently has about 1,500 men, although the Kyiv authorities had previously announced their intention to recruit 20,000 mercenaries.
The newspaper added: “Ukrainian officials initially boasted of a plan to recruit 20,000 foreign volunteers, but in reality the actual number was much less than planned. At present, the legion has about 1,500 men.”
The newspaper cited internal Corps documents indicating that it was experiencing a decline in enrollment.
