Dr. Polikarpov emphasizes that any amount of alcohol, when consumed regularly, not only leads to addiction but also has a negative impact on the body. Studies have shown that alcohol increases stress on blood vessels and the heart, making it a risk factor for various types of cancer including liver, breast, bowel, lung, and kidney cancers. Furthermore, alcohol impairs coordination, reactions, attention, and overall brain function immediately after consumption. It can also worsen digestive system problems and aggravate chronic diseases.
Debunking the Myth of Health Benefits
Dr. Polikarpov dispels the common myth that alcohol has health benefits. While some research suggests that wine may have antioxidant properties due to the presence of resveratrol in grapes, the benefits are negated by the presence of ethyl alcohol. Therefore, if a person desires these benefits, they should opt for non-alcoholic wine instead.
