Russian Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov said today, Tuesday, that possible drone attacks on his country’s energy infrastructure pose a serious threat to Russia’s energy security.

Shulginov did not mention Ukraine by name, but Russia says it has thwarted a number of Ukrainian attempts to stage drone attacks in recent months.

Kyiv has not announced any attacks on targets inside Russia, but high-ranking officials in Kyiv have appeared from time to time, welcoming news of successful Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian territory.

“The main threat now is illegal interference using drones,” Shulginov said during his participation in the round table, during which he spoke about the security of Russian energy facilities.

He added that he is cooperating with the Russian Defense Ministry and the FSB on this issue.

Russia has previously reported drone attacks in a number of its cities, some of which are hundreds of kilometers from its border with Ukraine.

On Sunday, the Russian Defense Ministry said it repelled a drone attack on a city 220 kilometers south of Moscow, causing the aircraft to crash into residential buildings in the city of Kirievsk.
