Dr. Abdul Qadeer Salem Ahmed, an oncologist and director of the Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Hospital in Iraq, said that the use of depleted uranium bombs could lead to many diseases, including cancer.

And the specialist points out in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper that the danger of depleted uranium lies in the fact that it is a radioactive substance that remains in the environment for a very long period of time.

According to him, the use of these missiles is harmful to humans and the environment, as depleted uranium radiation damages cells and affects the human genetic makeup, and also poses a threat to the health of children and the elderly.

He adds: For example, the use of depleted uranium in Iraq has led to a significant increase in cancer cases among children and adults.

The specialist emphasizes that the impact of radioactive components present in the environment is not instantaneous, but lasts for very long years.

He says: “Water and soil are affected by these radioactive components. This undoubtedly leads to an increase in the incidence of cancer. But I must again emphasize that we do not have, at least at present, documented that the spread of cancer or congenital diseases is caused by the use of this type of weapon.
